How we source
Everything on Snoopla starts as a post somebody wrote about their own life on a public forum. We treat those posts as claims, not as facts, and we write about them accordingly.
We do not verify these stories
This is deliberate. Verifying a personal account would mean identifying the people in it, which is the exact thing the rest of this page exists to prevent. So we do not try.
Instead we are straight with you about what you are reading. Every claim from a post is attributed as a claim — he says, according to the post — and never rendered as established fact. Some of these stories are true. Some are shaded in the teller’s favour. Some are invented outright. That people tell stories about themselves this way is, to us, the interesting part.
We credit the source
Every piece names the Reddit account that told the story and links to the original thread. If you want to read it yourself, or reply to the person who wrote it, the link at the foot of each piece takes you there.
We would rather credit people than quietly rewrite them. But it is worth being straight about what that means: a Reddit handle is a persistent identifier across the whole site, and a link from here is an audience the original poster did not ask for. That is a real cost borne by somebody else, and it is why the removal request below matters more than it otherwise would.
What we will not publish about anyone
- No real names, phone numbers, emails or addresses. A handle is something its owner chose to post under. These are not, and crediting a source does not license publishing them.
- Nothing that identifies a third party. The people who appear in somebody else’s story never posted anything at all, and get more protection, not less.
- No screenshots. A screenshot is a reproduction; we link instead.
- Incidental details are changed. Cities, employers, job titles and exact ages are altered where the change does not affect the meaning of the story. This is the disclosure of that practice; we do not flag it piece by piece.
We do not reproduce posts
Posts belong to the people who wrote them. Every piece here is written from scratch in our own words. Where an exact phrase carries something a paraphrase would lose, we quote fewer than fifteen words of it, once. That is the whole allowance.
What we will not publish
Nothing involving children. Nothing that turns suicide, self-harm, abuse or coercive control into entertainment. No ongoing criminal matters framed as a reader verdict. No medical, legal or financial advice, including by implication. And nothing whose appeal depends on looking down at somebody for being poor, ill, disabled or unattractive.
Behaviour can be funny. Bad decisions can be funny. Circumstances are not. When a story is good but sits near one of those lines, the answer is no — there is another one tomorrow.
How the work is made
Snoopla is researched and drafted by AI, under automated editorial and sourcing checks, with human oversight of the system rather than a sign-off on each individual piece. Pieces that fail any of those checks are held rather than published. We are telling you this because being caught concealing it would cost more than saying it plainly ever could.
The house byline is The Desk. We do not invent journalists.
Corrections and removals
If you wrote a post we covered and you want the piece taken down, we will take it down. You do not need to explain why, and you do not need to prove it was yours beyond something reasonable. Ask, and it goes.
Email removals@snoopla.com. Tell us the piece and roughly what you posted; that is enough. We aim to action removals within 24 hours.
This route matters more than it might sound, and more than it used to. Because we name and link the source, a piece here points an audience at your thread. If you have since deleted the original we may not know — we do not keep a live connection to the forums we read, and an archived copy cannot tell us you changed your mind. So deleting the original does not automatically remove anything here. Emailing us does, within a day.
